If you've stopped by an on-site sale (Pre-COVID) , you may have seen us reusing plastic bags from other stores. We give them to customers who buy more than a handful of little items and need a bag and may not have one of our nifty, cloth Fairfax Estate Sales (FES) grocery bags. We also use them to #reduce waste because, as of right now, these bags are not easily recycled. According to waste managers, the plastic bags that indeed show the recycleable symbol on them are not really able to be recycled at this time. This is because they get stuck in the sorting machines and clog up the gears. So, there isn't a very productive way to mass recycle them. That is why you see them on the sides of the road or in landfills. The jury is still out on how to properly take care of them. You may see boxes in stores asking you to bring in your CLEAN plastic bags to be reused, but let's face it, unless you are sure those have been cleaned, you aren't using those. So, what are other ways you can reuse them, maybe just at home? Great question. Here's a link with some solutions - https://sosfuture.org/pages/how-to-recycle?gclid=CjwKCAiAg8OBBhA8EiwAlKw3ks7H58JP2v8-fTos5vpj7xxWRXeDzhncIm5b52ekxMw9dhVH9N-ObhoCHHEQAvD_BwE Along with the tips mentioned in the post above, we use plastic bags in our packaging. They helpt to protective fragile items - in case you wondered why you got a porcelain doll or precious vase wrapped in Trader Joe's bags. (We love shopping there!). So, if you are a person that keeps a plastic bag full of plastic bags under your sink or in the kitchen, please continue to reuse those mothers. Hopefully soon there will be a way to send them to a plant and have them turned into something else useful. Until then, enjoy your shipments full of Target bags - courtesy of #FairfaxEstateSales and #ThriftFrog.
